Phosphor in Glass

Phosphor composite glass encapsulant
with excellent light-resistance, heat-resistance, and hermeticity

PiG (Phosphor in Glass) is a glass encapsulant for LED in which a high-power LED color conversion phosphor is dispersed in an ultra-low melting point glass. It has superior heat resistance, hermeticity, chemical resistance, and thermal conductivity compared to conventional silicone binders.

Phosphor in Glass was developed as a solid phosphor material for color conversion of high-power LEDs. YEK Glass’ PiG is made of low melting point glass materials and has excellent heat resistance, moisture resistance, chemical resistance, and thermal conductivity compared to conventional silicone binder.

Application

High-power LED, automotive, horticultural LED components

Standard Production Spec

Heat flux image by increasing current in PIG on COB and Phosphor in Silicon Binder.

The low melting point glass of YEK GLASS has excellent thermal conductivity, effectively dissipating excessive heat from the LED chip due to high output, preventing degradation due to heat from phosphors and LED elements, and maintaining excellent luminous efficiency.

Better than Silicon

Low melting point glass used for PiG has excellent heat resistance, moisture resistance, chemical resistance and thermal conductivity when compared to silicone binders.

High refractive

It has optical properties such as excellent luminous efficiency and brightness with a higher refractive index than existing high melting point glass and silicon binders.

Low working temperature

Low Melting Glass has a very low transition temperature and working temperature, so it can be applied to all phosphors including red nitride-based phosphors that rapidly deteriorate at high temperatures, while also preventing the deterioration of the LED element itself.

Customizing

When producing PiG, various types and compositions of phosphors can be combined and therefore can be adjusted to the desired luminous color.
